Comments :

The site:

  • The project takes place on undeveloped ground in a residential area with low density.
  • The ground is made of planks, more or less organized in large terraces. The result is a very large slope, facing south.
  • The site is influenced at the same time by altitude (1000 m) and the Mediterranean Sea (the seaside is 40km away).
  • Prevailing winds are not a significant constraint - especially as the buildings are backed by the mountains and the airtightness is very thorough.
  • The plot of land benefits from an excellent south orientation but undergoes significant natural solar masks established by the surrounding mountains.

Implantation of the volumes:

We chose to implant buildings on an East-west axis but in a relatively compact way, on the higher part of the plot of land:

  • to maximize the free solar contributions and the views – the rooms as all other living spaces are oriented south to profit a maximum from the solar contributions;
  • to protect an important part of the natural space, in particular the central plateau;
  • to limit the excavations and protect at most the natural topography of the ground.

Brief description of the premises:

  • Accommodation will be spread over 3 buildings (with two levels) in a traditional style.
  • Catering Services & Seminar on one hand and SPA on the other are located in a building that serves as a base for the 3 flags. This large volume, with flat and vegetated roofs and facades clad in local stone is to remind one of large terraces that rhythm the plot of land.

This project wants to be an example:

  • An integration in the site which limits the excavations and that protects a big part of the natural space. The landscaped integration of the project and  its occupation of the ground will minimize the modifications of the ground and its natural inclination;
  • An extremely successful "envelope" from the thermal point of view: optimal insulation, internal pushed inertia, perfectly mastered solar control;
  • The appeal to the techniques of the wood construction that allows a much more favorable "carbon assessment" than the "traditional" and less harmful construction sites;
  • A "cleaner" construction site than the "traditional" one: mainly dry, sorting and waste recycling of a pushed and checked construction site, very low noise and odor emissions (thanks to the techniques planned in the conception phase);
  • The use of renewable energy: It is the wood heating that has been retained;
  • Particular attention will be paid to comfort: the use of natural light and the hydrothermal and acoustic atmosphere will be noted by the users;
  • Particular attention is paid to the nature of materials: paints, stains, flooring, woodwork and other materials used in interior spaces will all have at least the European Ecolabel.
