FAQ
Primary Energy
A primary energy source is a form of energy available in nature before any transformation (wood, coal, natural gas, oil, wind, solar, hydro, geothermal ...). These energy sources must undergo a series of transformations and be transported to be delivered as "final energy" for consumers.
The energy cost of these transformations is taken into account so that for example:
It is considered by the benchmark Passive House that 1kW of electricity coming from the public network corresponds to the consumption of 2.7 kW of primary energy. The benchmark of the Low-energy house label (BBC Label) retains a little lower energy cost of about 2.57 kW.
