Ventilation of the building

It is important to renew regularly the air of a building because it becomes poor in oxygen, stocks humidity, unpleasant smells and harmful particles emanating from equipments, paint and other existing chemical complex in the building.
There are several ways to ventilate a building and the most obvious is opening the windows. The thermal regulation (RT2005) nowadays requires a minimum system of controlled or mechanical ventilation.

As part of a high energy performance conception the ventilation is a very important issue. The goal is to obtain an optimal renewal of the air using as little energy as possible. Air quality is a key element to the sensation of well being perceived by the inhabitants, including the homogeneity of temperature, humidity and good distribution of fresh air.

The different ventilation solutions :

Exhaust ventilation :

It is the ventilation made by opening windows and / or a failure of the building insulation.

Mechanical ventilation :

Very widely used in buildings of the last 30 years, this system extracts the exhaust area of wet rooms while the renewal is done through passive vents located in other parts; these vents are usually positioned in the top of the joineries. The constant flow allows a continuous renewal of the air.

This system does not allow any flow regulation based on real needs: season, occupancy level …

Spot ventilation :
This solution is identical to the previous but on but the air flow adapts itself to the level of humidity present in the rooms. This solution has therefore an advantage over the previous one as it adapts itself to the usage level of the building. Indeed, the degree of humidity increases with the level of occupancy of the building due to human respiration.

Balanced ventilation :
The specificity of this system lies in the fact that the extraction of the polluted air is not centralized. It is made from several fans positioned in wet rooms. The fans can be humidity sensitive or not.
